Coffee capsules really changed how many Australians get their morning cup ready. Forget about measuring out beans – or dealing with a dirty machine afterwards! Just pop in one capsule, press a single button, and you’re done in under 30 seconds. Industry figures show capsule coffee now accounts for nearly a third of all coffee machine purchases here in Australia – and that proportion just keeps going up each year. Yet, not every capsule is right for every palate – and grabbing something at random from the shelf very often results in a very weak, quite bitter, or rather watery cup. Getting it right starts with knowing your machine type and your flavour preference before you scroll through Axil Coffee’s coffee capsules and fill your cart with the wrong roast.

What Capsule Type Fits Your Machine?

Check compatibility first, every single time. Some capsules only work with Nespresso style machines, while others fit Vertuo pods or Keurig style brewers.

•       Check the capsule shape against your machine’s manual before buying in bulk

•       Nespresso Original machines need small, round capsules, not Vertuo pods

•       Keurig machines need K-Cup style capsules with a flat top

•       Compatible capsules are usually labelled clearly on the box or product page

Buying the wrong shape means a jammed machine and a wasted box of coffee sitting in your cupboard. Checking your machine’s model number online before ordering really helps – it prevents those frustrating returns and costly refunds.

How Strong Should Your Coffee Be?

Roast level decides strength more than the capsule brand does. A light roast holds more caffeine per gram than a dark roast, even though dark roast tastes bolder on your tongue. Here is how the common roast levels compare.

Roast LevelFlavourCaffeine per Capsule (approx)
LightBright, fruity90-100mg
MediumBalanced, smooth80-90mg
DarkBold, smoky65-75mg

Pick light roast for a stronger buzz in the morning, and dark roast for a smoother cup late in the day.

How Many Capsules Should You Keep on Hand?

Running out mid week is the most common coffee complaint there is. A home with two coffee aficionados really goes through about 10-14 pods every week – assuming they have one cup in the morning and another post-lunchtime. Purchasing in lots of 50 or more will last them quite nearly a month without having to re-order – and most pod brands give a little discount when you reach this larger quantity threshold. Stock up adequately so that even if there’s a slow delivery week it won’t result in a hasty cup of instant coffee instead of the genuine article.

Store your capsules somewhere cool and dry, away from the stove or a sunny windowsill. Heat breaks down the oils inside the coffee faster than almost anything else, even inside a sealed capsule. A simple drawer or cupboard away from direct sun keeps every capsule tasting the way it did on the day it was packed.
