Use the steps below to prepare your site, your utilities, and your team before the equipment shows up.
Start With a Clear Picture of the Water
The water defines everything downstream, so gather its details first. Accurate data lets the provider specify the right process train the first time and avoids changes after the unit lands. Before you request a system, collect:
- Flow rates, including average and peak conditions
- Key contaminants and their concentrations
- Source type, such as surface water, groundwater, process water, or wastewater
- Variability you expect during the deployment, such as seasonal or storm-driven swings
- The effluent target or permit limit you need to meet
Share recent lab results wherever you have them. Real water data beats assumptions every time.
Match the Process to the Goal
Once you know the water and the target, the process train follows. Clarification handles bulk solids, and it fits water with high suspended solids, algae, color, or oil and grease. Common options include ballasted flocculation and dissolved air flotation (DAF), both built for fast, high-rate solids removal. Filtration polishes the water further, using media, disc, or pressure filters, with ultrafiltration (UF) or reverse osmosis (RO) membranes where higher purity is required. Many sites combine steps into a single train. Confirming this sequence early sets the footprint, the connections, and the chemicals you’ll need on hand.
Choose the Tie-In Points
A mobile system connects to your plant at logical points: raw water intake, pretreatment, intermediate filtration, or final polishing. Decide whether the unit will run in parallel with your basins and filters or serve as a temporary bypass during maintenance. Walk the site and identify:
- Where flow can be drawn and returned without disrupting operation
- Whether a bypass line already exists or needs to be added
- How isolation valves let you switch flow safely

Confirm Site Access and Footprint
Mobile units arrive on trailers or in containers, so the path in matters as much as the pad they sit on. Confirm road access, turning room, and a level, stable area for setup. Check overhead clearance and any weight limits on site roads. Plan a laydown area near the tie-in points to keep hose and pipe runs short. Include space for containment and safe chemical storage where the process calls for it.
Prepare Power, Chemicals, and Connections
Utilities readiness often sets the deployment date. Line these up before the equipment arrives:
- A power source sized for the system, with the connection point close to the setup area
- Coagulant and polymer supply for clarification, plus any other process chemicals
- Standard hose and pipe connections at the inlet and outlet
- Clean water for makeup and washdown where the process needs it
Coordinating these with the provider heads off the most common cause of startup delays.
Sort Out Controls and Monitoring
Decide how the mobile system will be run and watched. Many units include a unified control system that can operate on its own or exchange signals with your plant’s programmable logic controller (PLC) or supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system for start and stop, alarms, and flow pacing. Agree in advance on which alarms your operators need, who monitors the unit, and how its data reaches your control room. Settling this early lets the system integrate cleanly on day one.
Line Up People and Support
Equipment is only half of a deployment. Confirm who handles setup, commissioning, and daily operation. A field services team can support startup and, where staffing is tight, temporary operation as well. Define the support level you need before the unit arrives, and make sure your operators get a walkthrough of the controls, the chemistry, and the routine checks.
